In Sakai, in addition to the Mozu Kofun Group, including the tomb of Emperor Nintoku, there are historically significantShrines and temples, historical townscapes, places associated with ancestors, traditional industries, etc.There are numerous historical and cultural resources that have been passed down through a long history.
Sakai Plaza of Rikyu and Akiko commemorates two figures associated with Sakai: Sen no Rikyu and Yosano Akiko.With the theme of broadly promoting Sakai's unique history and culture, this cultural and tourist facility opened on March 20, 2015.
Why not take a tour of the charming city of Sakai from the Sakai Plaza of Rikyu and Akiko museum, where you can learn about Sakai in the Azuchi-Momoyama period with Sen no Rikyu, and Sakai in the Meiji and Taisho periods with Yosano Akiko, and experience the history and culture of Sakai?

The plantings surrounding the entire site create a lush green environment, evoking the image of a former moated city, and a mountain village residence set within the city.
The theme of the building is "a mountain retreat in the city." The area around the building is paved with permeable pavement, creating a place of relaxation and refreshment for city residents in the city center.
