A museum where you can experience Sakai first-hand through Sen no Rikyu and Akiko Yosano.
From the Tomb of Emperor Nintoku to the Mozu Ancient Tomb Cluster and more, Sakai has a long history filled with many historical and cultural resources passed down, including shrines and temples with long lineage, historical districts, connections to important individuals, traditional industries, and more.
Sakai Plaza of Rikyu and Akiko opened on March 20, 2015 as a cultural tourism facility themed around two figures with ties to Sakai, Sen no Rikyu and Yosano Akiko, and aims to widely disseminate information about Sakai's distinctive historical culture.

Building exterior
The plantings surrounding the entire site create a lush green environment, evoking the image of a former moated city, and a mountain village residence set within the city.
The theme of the building is "a mountain retreat in the city." The area around the building is paved with permeable pavement, creating a place of relaxation and refreshment for city residents in the city center.
