[Exhibition overview]
The "Ten Senke Craftsmen" are a group of artisans who make tea utensils for the three Sen schools of tea ceremony: Omotesenke, Urasenke, and Mushakojisenke.
It consists of ten families: the Raku family of potters, the Nakamura family of lacquerware makers, the Kuroda family of tea scoop makers, the Okumura family of framers, the Nakagawa family of metalwork makers, the Komazawa family of joinery makers, the Tsuchida family of bag makers, the Hirai family of ikkanbari craftsmen, the Onishi family of kettles makers, and the Eiraku family of clay stove makers.
Each of these families has inherited traditional techniques dating back to the time of Sen no Rikyu.
Sakai Plaza of Rikyu and Akiko houses materials on the Ten Craftsmen of the Sen family, kindly donated by the Sakai Lions Club.
This corner exhibit will display these materials, allowing you to see the many techniques of the Ten Craftsmen of the Sen family that have been passed down to the present day.
