Three letters to Hiroshi and Akiko are revealed for the first time!
"Myojo" was first published in 1900 and is a magazine that represents Meiji romanticism, with Yosano Hiroshi as its editor and Yosano Akiko as its star.
While the first edition of Myojo from the Meiji period is highly regarded, the second edition, which was republished in the Taisho period, has not been well known until now.
This exhibition will be the first to show a letter sent to Hiroshi by painter and calligrapher Nakamura Fusetsu (1866-1943) regarding the title inscription on the cover of the Taisho-period magazine "Myojo." Fusetsu, who was well versed in the history of calligraphy, sent Hiroshi title design proposals using the characters "明" (myo) and "星" (star) in various styles he had collected from Chinese calligraphy. Hiroshi and Akiko accepted the proposal and used it for the cover inscription on more than a dozen occasions.
