How to apply for field trips

Sakai Plaza of Rikyu and Akiko accepts reservations for field trips for junior high school students and younger.

Applications will be accepted from the first day of the month 6 months prior to the planned date. (Example: October 20th → Applications will be accepted from April 1st)
Please note that applications will be accepted from January 4th only.

This plan combines a tea ceremony experience with viewing the exhibition, and lasts approximately 90 minutes.

Tea ceremony experience learning

This is an experiential learning plan for school groups of junior high school students and younger.
Through the experience of making tea in a tea room (including matcha and sweets),
In addition to learning about tea ceremony culture, you can also learn about manners and etiquette.

*The tea ceremony experience lesson takes approximately 45 to 60 minutes.
*If you have any food allergies, please let us know in advance.

*Reservations must be made at least 1 month prior to the desired experience date.
* Please confirm the number of participants at least 7 days before the experience date. Changes or cancellations cannot be made after that date.

Exhibition viewing

In addition to the tea ceremony experience mentioned above, you will also learn about the history and culture of Sakai through viewing exhibits that touch on the city's history and culture.
Even if you have only heard or seen something in a textbook, you can deepen your understanding by experiencing it through the exhibits.
Please visit either the Sen no Rikyu Tea Ceremony Museum or the Yosano Akiko Memorial Museum, or both, of the permanent exhibition facilities.

* Cannot be reserved exclusively (please note that the facility is also used by general visitors)


At the Sen no Rikyu Tea Ceremony Museum, you can see images and audio of people who were involved with Rikyu and the town of Sakai.
The audio commentary on Rikyu is provided by Kataoka Ainosuke, a kabuki actor from Sakai City who is also a Sakai Goodwill Ambassador. You can also listen to audio commentary on Miyoshi Nagayoshi, Oda Nobunaga, Francis Xavier, and others.

At the Yosano Akiko Memorial Museum, you can experience the Meiji to Showa eras through a full-scale reproduction of Akiko's birthplace, the Japanese confectionery shop Surugaya, which was located in Kai-cho, Sakai Ward, Sakai City, as well as her activities as a poet, as exemplified by her collection of poems, "Midaregami," and her poem, "Kimi Shinitamafu Koto Nakare."

 The following people are eligible to view the exhibitions at the Sen no Rikyu Tea Ceremony Museum and the Yosano Akiko Memorial Museum free of charge.
 ・Elementary and junior high school children, students, and accompanying teachers
 ・People who have been issued various disability certificates or rehabilitation certificates, and their caregivers
  (Please bring your student ID or notebook, etc., as we may need to check this at the reception desk.)

Scheduled Exhibit

Special exhibitions are held at certain times of the year, so please consider the period of your visit.
Please note that admission fees vary depending on the exhibition.

Lunch and rest area

 The rental space can accommodate up to 60 people (when chairs only are provided).
 It is available for use. For lunch breaks, storing luggage, and sharing feedback on field trips.
 It can be used for a variety of purposes.

 * After use, please return desks, chairs, and other equipment to their original positions.
 * Please treat the building, facilities, equipment, and fixtures with care.
   In the event of damage or loss, you will be responsible for the costs.

Bus parking also available

 There is a 24-hour parking lot with space for 103 standard cars (including wheelchair users).
 There are 1 parking spaces (one for private use and one for sharing), and the capacity is 5 tour buses.
  
 Bus parking: 1 day 1,000 yen

 * Reservation required. Available hours: 9:00-18:00 (maximum of 2 hours per visit)
 *Please pay at the bus parking payment machine before leaving the parking lot.
