With some exceptions, advance reservations are not required for personal use.

Individual experiences do not require advance reservations, except for the tea ceremony experience in the tea room.
Please come to the general reception desk 20 minutes before your desired time.

Sakai Plaza of Rikyu and Akiko is also suitable for individuals and small groups.
You can enjoy tea ceremony experiences and exhibitions at your leisure.
After you arrive, please check the availability at the general reception on the 1F floor.

Tea ceremony in a traditional Japanese style (no reservation required)

Ryurei is a style of tea ceremony performed while sitting on a chair, and was devised to allow people who find it difficult to sit in seiza and people from overseas to enjoy the tea ceremony.

In this experience, you will enjoy matcha green tea and Sakai wagashi (fresh sweets) at a chair, accompanied by a tea ceremony from the Omotesenke, Urasenke, and Mushakojisenke schools.

Tea ceremony experience in a tea room (reservation required)

Under the guidance of the three Sen schools of tea ceremony, you will learn about nijiri, seiza, floor appreciation, sweets and tea.
Not only can you experience the proper etiquette for the tea ceremony, such as how to receive tea, but you can also try it yourself.
You can also make tea.

Permanent exhibition facility (no reservation required)

Sen no Rikyu Chanoyu Museum

At the Sen no Rikyu Tea Ceremony Museum, images and audio of people connected to Rikyu and the town of Sakai are displayed.
In addition to introducing the area, "Sakai as seen in the Sumiyoshi Festival Screen" and "Sakai: The World-Class Moated City"
You can see exhibits such as "Ruins" and "Imagination of Tea Room (Floor Area)."


Yosano Akiko Museum

At the Yosano Akiko Memorial Museum, you can experience the world of Akiko's poetry through video and audio.
The poetry is changed with the seasons, spring, summer, autumn and winter, and visitors can also see the bindings of Akiko's books, a recreation of the study where she wrote, and the lives and achievements of Akiko and Hiroshi, who were teacher, student, comrade, and husband and wife.

Tour of Sakai Tai-an (no reservation required)

Based on research findings from historical documents, modern craftsmen have brought Sakai Tai-an back to life in Sakai, and visitors can enter the tea room to experience the space.
You can also visit "Muichian," a replica of Rikyu's four-and-a-half-tatami-mat tea room from the Kitano Grand Tea Ceremony.

Every Tuesday and Friday, at 11:00 and 14:00, tea is served in the tea room "Muichian."

Time Trip Sakai (no reservations required)

This is an experiential content that lasts approximately seven minutes. When you put on VR goggles and stand on a circular table, a 7D image of the medieval moated city of Sakai is reproduced on the hologram table, and you can view the image from any angle.

Additionally, huge digital signage screens are installed on 3 walls of the room, projecting beautiful seasonal scenes such as cherry blossoms and autumn leaves, allowing you to take commemorative photos with your smartphone.

Tour volunteers will guide you through Sen no Rikyu Tea Ceremony Hall, Yosano Akiko Memorial Museum, and tea rooms named by the heads of the three Sen schools of tea.
